With summer just around the corner its time to stock up on all the summer essentials, which includes sunblock. There are many sunscreens and sunblocks on the market. But not all sunscreens and sunblocks are created equal and you should be careful when looking for sun block this summer.
When choosing an SPF this summer, check for those that are listed as “broad spectrum,” which means they protect against both UVA and UVB rays. The important ingredients to look for are mineral ingredients, like zinc oxide and titanium dioxide, which physically block UV rays. Hence the name "sunblock." Note these ingredients will sit on your skin and physically block the sun. Don't expect them to rub into the skin like a synthetic sunscreen.
Synthetic sunscreens that have chemical ingredients absorb the UV rays. Avoid ingredients including oxybenzone, retinyl palminate or ingredients such as parabens, phthalate, peg, parfume (a.k.a. fragrance) and sodium lauryl/laureth sulphate.
While a good quality sunblock is a good option. The best sun block is protecting your skin from the sun. When outside in the full sun keep as much skin covered as possible, opt for long sleeve shirts and hats, or find shady spots under an umbrella or the shade of a tree to hang out out of the direct sun.
Uncle Mike's has apparel to keep you looking good and your skin protected this summer.
Many people also fail to think of their lips when protecting themselves from the sun. Look for a lip balm with SPF like Uncle Mike's Lip Balm to keep you lips protected from UV rays.
